WHEN CARE … IS CLEAR TO SEE
When packaging over-the-counter pharmaceuticals it is essential to provide systems which provide protection for the product and a perception of high quality
One of the newest developments in pain control is medicated patches.
These patches, which are applied locally, in fact make it possible to act directly on the painful area, without unnecessarily burdening other organs. However the marketing of these medications sets new challenges for packaging.
Being “overthe-counter products”, pharmaceutical companies need packaging which emphasises and maintains the quality of the medication sold.
This challenge was taken up by the staff of Imanpack, whose philosophy, can be summarised in the motto: “Give us a problem, we'll create the pack”. Imanpack in fact stands out because of its ability to innovate and anticipate market requirements with personalised solutions.

EVERY PACK HAS TWO SIDES…
The need to guarantee high quality made it necessary to create packaging which
was completely different from that ordinarily available.
The five square patches, whose sides measure a few tens of centimetres, are in fact placed on top of each other and protected by a composite film packaging of various coextruded technopolymers combined with laminated aluminium sheets. In general when these materials are used only a single sheet which is folded and welded at the centre is used.
This arrangement did not however satisfy the pharmaceutical company. Partly because, apart from the aesthetic aspect, there was the problem of the pack insert.
This had to be included within the packaging - something incompatible with the conditions arising  within such packaging which would give rise to deterioration of the paper.
Printing the instructions directly onto the pack was then thought of, but the central weld made it difficult to make suitable use of one of the two sides, not forgetting that the high temperature reached during welding could damage the patches. ImanPack's engineers therefore devised an original concept, creating a packaging system which was unique of its kind: two superimposed layers of aluminium welded along their entire perimeter.
This was a bold choice, as it required an exasperating level of accuracy, through having to work with extremely light materials which are difficult to keep in the right position.
